Tottenham Champions League struggles
Prior to the competition there is little doubt that Group B did look the most difficult to call with all four sides having legitimate chances of progressing through. Barcelona led by Messi have been dominant throughout, and now look to be heading through as the likely winners of the group. Punters have also been using the latest offer from bethard to support them as they are currently one of the favourites for the title.
Tottenham v Barcelona
Barcelona certainly showed their class when facing Tottenham in winning 4-2. Spurs were missing a number of first team players which was evident in their play. Despite this they put up a positive showing in scoring twice against Barcelona. However the game was all about the class of Messi as he again performed at the height of his powers against an English club, something he seems to regularly do in the competition. This is not a game Tottenham would have expected to win but the return leg is now all the more important if Spurs are to progress through to the knock out stages.
Tottenham v Inter Milan
A 2-1 loss on match day one to Inter has piled the pressure on Spurs. They had controlled the game that included taking the lead following an Erikson goal on 53 minutes. Spurs looked to have the three points in the bag moving into the final minutes of the game before a sublime volley by Icardi. A goal good enough to win any game. It then turned to disaster as Inter got the winner late into injury time. This was a game Tottenham simply should have win, but was another reminder of the harsh reality of Champions league football. Tottenham now host Inter on the penultimate game of the group stages in what is now a must win encounter if they are to have any chance of progressing through.
Tottenham v PSV
The matchday three draw with PSV is a game that will live long in the memory, and is going to be seen as a serious missed chance if they fail to progress through. You will struggle to find a more one sided game in the champions league this season, as Spurs completely controlled the tie. They were leading 2-1 following a goal from Kane before a moment of madness from Lloris, that led to him receiving a red card. Despite this Tottenham still looked in control before the late equaliser. This was very harsh on Tottenham, but they must become more ruthless if they are to be successful in the competition in the future. PSV now travel to face Tottenham next, and it is a win or your out fixture. Spurs will be expected to beat them with ease before the final big two fixtures to decide their fate.
