31st March - the Goon game part 1 and Sugar's excellent comments on Graham

31st March 01 - Arsenal 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur - down, but not out

A disappointing defeat but many of the young players played well and we can take heart that with Sol, Carr and Rebrov back next week - its still very much up for grabs

Ful report to follow

31st March 01 - Thoughts on the Goon game - part 1

Todays game - unlike most other Derby matches at Scumbury is put into the shade by the events off the field and the prospect of a cup semi final against them in a weeks time (still have n't got my tickets!)

Even without the injuries - today's task will be tough against a Goon side with an excellent record at home. Spurs have injuries to Campbell, Rebrov, Anderton, Sherwood, Clemence, Leo and Taricco and have included some newish names into the squad - Piercy (who did well in his stint last year), Hillier (Welsh Full back) and Johnnie Jackson, England U-19 midfielder and Steve Ferguson recently signed from East Fife.

The most important thing is not to concede a goal - and another installment of Heroics from Sully would not go amiss. Freund will also be important, as will anyone who can take out Viera ;-). I'd settle for a point and no further injuries at the moment - but its about time Les got his first against the Goons!

31st March 01 - Graham is a clapped out Gutless Coward - its official

In typical fashion Sugar has slagged off the recenlty dismissed Spurs manager soon after their removal -this time its actually quite funny and well worth a read at www.mirror.co.uk - it says what I've been saying on here for ages. Here are some bits from Sugar

"It soon became clear that the familiar wave of propaganda for 'poor old George' was being peddled without a hint of an open-mindedness for the club's new owners, ENIC. Well the truth is very different. What really happens is a manager like George Graham is very experienced at playing the media game, orchestrating the press with a clever quote or an easy headline. Unfortunately, many fans can't see through this little trick unless someone like me spells it out.

But let me ask you something: Have you ever noticed nothing is ever George Graham's fault? And I mean nothing. Now how can that be true? None of us are perfect, yet George has cleverly mastered the art of deflection and is very successful at diverting attention from himself and his failings. Here was a man who was being paid a fortune to do a job, but he still blamed all of his problems on someone else.

Most of the managers I have employed have talked about their need for "three more players to make a winning team. But not George. He needed SIX more players" and he proudly announced this to the media on many occasions. Strangely enough, after we bought three players you'd have assumed he only needed another three. No such luck, whenever he lost a game or things went wrong he was like a stuck record, spouting on about how he still "needed six more players".

Suddenly he was playing Mr Naive - and this from a man who has been in the football business for 35 years. But he knew exactly what he was doing when he answered those questions. He was turning the spotlight away from himself and on to the board. It's a typical manager's tactic. Despite being warned about this time and time again, he continued to hang me out to dry. Even so, I was prepared to go along with it for the good of the team, believing he was still the right guy for the job.

But there was one occasion when I could not keep quiet - and that's when we sold David Ginola. Graham immediately tried to palm the blame off on to me. Now I had sat next to Graham in the directors'' box for nearly two years and all I ever heard him do was curse Ginola.

"David, David, what are you doing?" he'd say. ""Bloody hell David, what are you doing? Look at him, look at him. David, you're a waste of space.''" It went on and on. As a result, the rumour that Graham wanted to get rid of Ginola was fairly widespread. Then, last summer, I was approached by Doug Ellis to see whether Spurs would consider selling Ginola. I gave him a go-away price of pounds 3m, hoping he would do just that - go away. He didn't.

But when it came to clinching the deal, Graham suddenly announced he never wanted Ginola to leave and implied in public that it was a board decision. I couldn't believe the cowardice of that statement. I remember being in Marbella at the time and seeing it on Sky News. Now I couldn't take that. I had to break my silence and put the record straight by stating in no uncertain terms that no player ever left our football club unless the manager agreed to it 100 per cent.

The trouble is, people rarely get the full picture. This is because the football media is full of ex-footballers or journalists who have grown up blind in admiration and loyalty to a player who was their contemporary. There's absolutely nothing wrong with loyalty, even blind loyalty. You stick by your mates and I wholeheartedly agree with that philosophy.

Let's just stop there. Let's analyse what Professor McLintock has told us. He said: ""Look what he has done for that club?''" Now I assume he means Tottenham here. Well, in the time he was manager, Graham spent more money than any other boss in Spurs' history. He also spent more money in the period of time he was at Spurs than he did at any other club. And what did he achieve for this outlay of cash? The Worthington Cup, that's what.

Next, let's examine McLintock's other point about the foundations he laid at Leeds. Here are the facts Frank forgot to tell you. Every single player George purchased for Leeds was disposed of by David O'Leary when he took over. There is not one single player that Graham purchased currently playing for Leeds. The kids were there before he came and, fortunately for Leeds, they are there still. So what "foundations" are you talking about Frank?

It was during the well-publicised court case I brought against a Daily Mail journalist called Jeff Powell. Now I always knew Powell was a friend of George and Terry Venables - it's blatantly clear from the way he writes. But this journalist wrote a particularly nasty article about me. I took it into George's office on the day it was published and said: "What do you think of this garbage written by your mate?''

Graham looked back at me as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth and said: "It's outrageous, Alan. I agree with you, he's gone over the top. It's terrible, it's nasty and you don't deserve it.'' Preparing for the court case took about 15 months, during which time Graham gave a witness statement. In that statement he confirmed that I had never turned down ANY request he had made to me to purchase a player. He was reluctant to give a statement because he was a mate of Powell's and told me so.

Nevertheless, it wasn't very long and Graham asked the club to pay for his own lawyer's advice, which we gladly did. He was not under duress; he actually took independent advice, which we paid for. Yet, despite going on record to the contrary, people kept telling me that Powell's article had been initiated and motivated by Graham. I told them they were wrong, there was no way anybody could be so two-faced or depraved to actually condone such an article. It was not until half way through the trial that the truth came out. Powell, under cross examination, admitted he had met with Graham several times and discussed matters at Tottenham.

He said he was privy to certain information from the club, and had dined out with Graham long after I had taken legal action against him. The last time was just a few weeks before the trial in February. I was totally stunned. I have had many things done to me in my time and nothing normally shocks or surprises me. But this gutless action of Graham devastated me. I could not believe anyone could stoop so low.

It all suddenly became clear. The article was written shortly after we lost terribly at Fulham in the Worthington Cup and so here was his loyal buddy writing a piece to deflect all the attention away from him - and on to me.

Well, Graham is a gutless coward who will not stand up and admit he has made mistakes. In my time at Tottenham I made lots of mistakes, the biggest was possibly employing him.

I did so after putting aside personal feelings. Everybody knew he was a big pal of Terry Venables - and, as you are probably aware, I've had a few run-ins with him. He also had been the manager of Arsenal, our biggest rivals. But I put all of this to the back of my mind and focused instead on his supposed credentials.

Yet like Spurs fans I got mugged into believing this Adonis" of the football world was the be-all and end-all in man-management, tactics and skills. Even when I was in the middle of that court case, before Powell gave his evidence, I was still being duped.

I actually said Graham was the second-best manager in England. What I eventually realised was that I had employed a has-been, a man living off his past success at Arsenal.

A coward not prepared to admit his mistakes. A man whose shortcomings were camouflaged by his mates in the media, men who, if they talked long enough, could even convince you that Gary Lineker had tiny ears.

Yes, I wrote letters to George Graham spelling out what I expected of him and what was not acceptable to say in public - no question of it. And I will go on record saying if ENIC had not asked me to hold off, I would have sacked George Graham personally.

So I'd say this to Spurs fans. Do yourselves a favour, give ENIC a chance. The sacking of Graham is not really their fault, I loaded the bullets, they just pulled the trigger.

I spent nine years as chairman, during the first part of which I must admit I had a big mouth. Later I tried to learn a lesson and keep quiet. But in doing so I had to bottle up my frustration at the way the truth was being distorted. I could tell our fans even more, but I don't want to affect any legal position that might follow.

30th March 01 - THE RETURN OF HODDLE

A great day for the club as Hoddle is appointed coach. Further congratulations to ENIC.

Glenn: This is my club

Glenn Hoddle strode back into White Hart Lane on Friday evening and declared: "This is my club." Glenn was unveiled as our new manager having signed a five-year contract. He takes over officially on Monday. John Gorman will be his assistant manager and Chris Hughton has been promoted to first team coach.

As he sat down to talk to the massed ranks of the media in his first duties as our new manager, the player who lit up the Lane for 13 years immediately spoke of a sense of 'coming home'.

He said: "I walked through the turnstiles when I was eight years of age as a supporter, so I know how the supporters feel. I left when I was 29. That is a massive part of my football career. Whether or not I knew I was coming back I can't say but I'm glad to be here.

"It's emotional and exciting, a feeling of coming home. That's the feeling.

"As far as this club is concerned I've been there. I've been out in that stadium for 13 years as a professional.

"I joined the club at 11 years of age, so there is a deep rooted feeling for Tottenham Hotspur. It has always been my club. I know the feeling at the club, I know what the fans want, what they like and I know what they don't like.

"We have an opportunity to understand that straight away. That is natural and is already there and will be an advantage to take the club forward."

26th March 01 - Barcelona Goons

Up on the roof of one of Gaudi's great buildings in Barcelona earlier today, I ran into a goon with a "100 Gooner t-shirt" with Charlie George on it. The goon was the usual rancid specimen but I was delighted to see that he had a really ugly fat wife, complete with a t-shirt with a pig on it. Lets all laugh at Arsenal, lets all laugh at Arsenal....

26th March 01 - Weekend review - increased Sol hopes

Sol said: "Over the next week or two I'll be meeting with the new owners and there will be discussions about different situations at Tottenham Hotspur. "They want to be successful so we've got to talk and see where we want to go as a club. These things take time. You can't rush them. I've had a couple of talks already and things so far have been positive. "I'm not looking to move if they convince me about the future. I want to stay at Tottenham.

"Whether or not a new manager is in place is not a big thing for me. As long as the club is healthy and things are in place, then myself and other players will want to join Tottenham or continue with them. "I want the club to do well and that's the main thing for me. If Tottenham is in a situation where they want to do well then people are going to want to join in and that includes me.

"They've (the new board) got a blueprint for the future. I want to see that blueprint and then make a decision." He continued: "I've been at Spurs 10 years now and I have been loyal to them. I've not spoken to any other clubs. I'm happy for me to do well for Spurs. That would mean a lot and is more important than any other offer. "I've been through four managers now but the main thing is keeping us winning and moving up the league and there's also the FA Cup semi-final still to come.

26th March 01 - Eff off

While Steffen Effenburg is a fine player - a rich man's Sherwood - he has also been at the centre of lots of dressing room unrest and his motives for coming to the Premiership at 32 seem open to question. Right quality of player, but no thanks

23rd-26th March 01 - Barcelona Bound

A weekend off from Tottenham allows me a break away with the Mrs. I'll be up for getting my revenge for the animals of 1982 in Barcelona - this one's for Robbo.

22nd March 01 - Chas n Dave

A great week has been crowned by knowing that Edmonton's finest Hodges and Peacock have a song ready for the final - and not only that - its been ready thro three losing semi's since 1993. Lets do it for Chas n Dave.......

IN AN interview with BBC Sport today, Chas & Dave have revealed that they have had a new 'anthem' for Tottenham that has been waiting since 1993 to be aired. The most famous Spurs fans around were voted fans' favourite choice as the club's next managers in a recent Football365 poll.

"I think it's great," says Chas, "we'd do it like a shot. There would have a to be a few changes up there, though. We'd turn it into the Arthur Rowe Push and Run Side. "We'd get all the players kitted out in fifties boots to start with, and them cotton shirts - you know the ones that get heavy in the rain - that'd train 'em up properly."

And presumably boring coach journeys to away matches would be livened up with a good old fashioned sing song ? "Oh yes, we'd have all the old songs they used to sing in those days. "We'd also be holding auditions in the close season for lookalikes. You know players who looked like Alf Ramsey and Danny Blanchflower.

"If you can look like the great players, you're half way there." So this back to the future approach would presumably be reflected in the wages? "Oh yeah, we'd put wages back to £20 a week," laughs Chas. "We'd get rid of those flash cars they drive, the Porsches and the Mercs, and replace them with bikes so they'd get really fit.

"Give 'em a taste of proper training and you can forget Fergie's fairies up North, Spurs will be ready to take on the world." Chas 'n' Dave's repertoire includes two of the most famous football songs ever written - Ossie's Dream (Spurs are on their way to Wembley) and Tottenham Tottenham (no one can stop 'em). And Chas revealed there's another one ready to go should Spurs beat deadly north London rivals Arsenal in this year's semi-final.

"We've had a song ready since 1993, but they keep going out," he groans. "I can't give too much away, but it's a new song and it's a proper anthem." If Tottenham do get to Cardiff, the chances are a new manager (or managers) will not be in place, but Chas is still glad to see the back of George Graham. "He'd started to look a bit bored, you know, been there, done it. "If for some obscure reason me and Dave don't get the job, then I think Hoddle would be my next choice. "I'd have faith in him looking at what he's got before going out and buying people."

Chas 'n' Dave don't get to watch too many games these days due to touring commitments and the unexpected success of their song 'Flying' in America, which will see them cross the pond again later this year. But they would be willing to ditch it all for a spell in the White Hart Lane hot-seat and Chas, for one, is sure they'd make a good fist of it. "Oh yeah, we'd definitely give it a good go - and I'd like to thank all the fans who have given us their support for the Spurs job." So does he have a message for them? "Yes I do. When we get up there, boys and girls, you won't be disappointed

22nd March 01 - No scousers with Malnutrition here thanks

No to wingnut ears Jeffers thanks - certainly not at £7m

Caretaker boss David Pleat has revealed that the club came close to making a £7 million bid for Everton striker Francis Jeffers only days before the sacking of George Graham. The 20-year-old recently rejected a new five-year contract at Goodison Park and Spurs have long been linked with the England Under-21 star. Pleat confirmed: "I can confirm that we enquired about Francis Jeffers. Everton were going to come back to us but the player picked up an injury so we did not make a bid."

23rd-26th March 01 - Club Statement on the cash box/Fatcha

The Club would confirm there is no ‘cash riddle’ at White Hart Lane. The cash in question is as a result of fining players in cash for misdemeanours, this has been a practice at the Club for a number of years. At the end of each season all monies are donated to charity.

The cash was not suddenly found in a drawer, as the Mirror claims. It was kept in a strong box in the Club Secretary’s office and obviously its purpose, existence and whereabouts were known. We were not asked to comment in advance, nor is the Club aware of the source of this information. We are actively conducting our own investigation on that point. John Fennelly, Press Officer

The even wheel Ban Fatcha out to reveal that he was still about and not in the Prioiry as reported earlier.

Spurs' forgotten man Ben Thatcher has admitted his frustration at having to watch on from the sidelines as his team-mates prepare for the FA Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal at the beginning of April.

Speaking on the club's official website the defender said: “I’ve been to see specialists and they’ve told me to rest to give it a chance to heal. I’ve been in just concentrating on doing weights. As far as I’m concerned I’m just resting to give it the best chance of healing properly so it is stronger for the future. “The season has been a nightmare. Hopefully I’ll get over this, wipe the slate clean and start again.”

“There comes a stage where you are coming in every day, doing the same thing, doing weights, in the gym on your own, it’s a bit soul destroying but I’m not the only footballer to get injured. You have to get on with it and hopefully you’ll come back and get involved again.” As for the upcoming cup clash with the old enemy: “It’s pleasing to see the lads do so well because it’s my club and obviously I want them to do well. It’s just frustrating that you can’t be part of it. I’ve been going to the games and I was well pleased for the boys when we beat West Ham. It’s a tough game against Arsenal but there is no reason why we can’t go on to win the FA Cup.”

18th March 01 - another mental Thatcher?

This is scary stuff - rumours of mental breakdowns, unaccounted for money and thoughts of how much Thatcher is worth now. I think these rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt until official word on the matter, but it would help to explain Thatcher's prolonged absense.

The Spurs web reported "the club is increasingly concerned about the condition of Ben Thatcher who is said to be struggling to make the transition from Wimbledon to Spurs. There are fears that he may be suffering some form of mental breakdown. George Graham recently fined Thatcher £10,000 for a number of breaches of club discipline and demanded that the sum be paid in cash. No-one at the club knows where the money has gone although it is common practice for player fines to be donated to charity. There are two things which are troubling insiders - the size of the the cash fine, which is said to be unprecented and something which has shocked other players, and the fact that given Thatcher's breakdown he does not look like he is going to be capable of playing for Spurs again for at least another few months. His transfer value has therefore plummeted so raising further doubts about Graham's dealings in the transfer market.

18th March 01 - Buchler's vision

DAVID Buchler has set out his vision for the future of Tottenham Hotspur, and is promising to introduce modern, forward-looking reforms to reclaim the status the club enjoyed as a major power in English and European football as recently as 10 years ago.

That vision is embodied in Buchler's search for a successor to George Graham"It will be someone who can work with modern ideas and modern views," said Buchler, Tottenham's executive vice-chairman.

"We are certainly going to try to be progressive. We are going to try to find a solution for the club, and not only in management terms. I think a manager needs contact with the club all the way through, not just dealing with the top players. There needs to be no demarcation: we need a cohesive unit. So we will try to get a manager who will operate in a cohesive style with everyone at the club, and also a coach.

"It might be that they are the same person, it might not. On the Continent, you have a manager who is the public face, who wines, dines and grinds on the football side, and the coach makes sure that the working on the pitch is of the highest standard possible. That's how it operates on the Continent and some of it is successful, some of it isn't. Does that make the system more successful than the UK system? I don't know.

"The ambition of the club is that they need to play in Europe. They need to be a successful club on a consistent basis. It's the lack of consistency over the last decade or so that has perhaps been the most alarming thing.

"The club are no longer regarded highly in Europe. If you reckon that Manchester United, Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid are the real glamour clubs of European football, then you have a second tier that might be Liverpool, Arsenal, Leeds and Chelsea. And Spurs aren't even in that second tier.

"When I say these things, they are not just about George Graham. It might have been that the journey, if George was still here, would be a slightly different one: perhaps more long-term, I'd say. But I do believe I would have liked him to complete his contract."

18th March 01 - Triple Transfer swoop

Lets hope this is all untrue - but it has been revealed that we were about to sign Dean Richards, Hassan Kachloul and Sylvain Distin for a staggering £17.5m. - £10m for Dean Richards - you're having a laugh - we have plenty of Centre backs - even if Campbell goes, which I'm sure he will if Richards arrives

Spurs offered £10m for central defender Richards plus a further £500,000 for Moroccan international forward Kachloul, who is available on a Bosman free transfer at the end of the season. They also offered PSG £7m for 23-year-old Distin.

The fact that Spurs have bid for two defenders may be a sign the club fear they will lose skipper Sol Campbell when his contract expires at the end of the season, but White Hart Lane chiefs are determined to hold on to their star player and strengthen the squad with these signings.

17th March 01 - Spurs 3-0 Coventry

After the great win over West Ham and the amazing events yesterday, a great week was rounded off with an easy victory over a poor Coventry side in at a cold and wet White Hart Lane. Match report - www.topspurs.com/0001-h-ccfc.htm

17th March 01 - Those Hoddle rumours

Its looking like my £50 on Glennda at 5/4 last night is money well invested as Hoddle's agent fans the flames, while Glennda keeps a dignified distance. Its just a question of when. Tomorrow would be good as this would give him two weeks before the first Goon match and three weeks before the semi.

GLENN HODDLE'S agent, Dennis Roach, has hinted that although Hoddle is happy at Southampton he would still be interested in moving to Spurs. Speaking to the BBC this afternoon the agent said :"Glenn is as happy now as he has ever been with a chairman he gets along well with. However, we all know that Spurs is Glenn's spiritual home."

There are rumours that Hoddle has in his Southampton contract a clause which would allow him to move to Spurs if the job ever became vacant - from which the Saints would receive £800,000 compensation. If true, coupled with the fact that Hoddle will always be a 'Tottenham man', then it's looking more and more likely that it will be sooner rather than later that he makes the move to White Hart Lane.

16th March 01 - GRAHAM SACKED - GOOD RIDDANCE

Brave ENIC have had enough of George Graham's own agenda and have sacked him after he revealed private conversaions in the press. This is a GREAT day for the club. We are finally rid of the no good Goon - no more under achievement and slagging off of our history under the name of progress.

Graham's initial comments

Once again Graham chose to bleat in the media rather than be a team player - this time it was to cost him.

The 56-year-old Scot met the club's new vice-chairman David Buchler on Thursday for a meeting that was supposed to be kept confidential. The subject of transfer funds and contracts for three of Spurs' top players - Sol Campbell, Darren Anderton and Les Ferdinand - was top of the agenda. Graham was told that only limited funds would be made available to him this season and next, and he made his disquiet clear in the press afterwards.

In the interview after the "confidential" meeting, Graham said: "I gave him my recommendations, mainly on two topics. "The first was new contracts for Sol, Darren and Les, and I left him in no doubt that we should do our utmost to keep the three of them. "Secondly, we need to strengthen the squad, so we don't get into another situation like this year where we have had to sling in the youngsters.

"I hope to get players in to add to the squad, and hopefully I can do it before next Thursday's transfer deadline. "But I have been told there is a limited budget. "I cannot reveal how much is available, but I don't think there will be big outlays." Graham urged Enic to put their positive intentions about Spurs into action.

"Only time will tell how things will work out in the future. "Actions are a lot more difficult than words and once we see a bit of action, that will give me a lot of encouragement. "Everybody wants the same at Tottenham, which is success, and only time will answer whether or not there will be some action."

Buchler's response & sacking - from the official site www.spurs.co.uk

I am very sorry to report that a situation occurred today that has resulted in George Graham being dismissed from this club.

Just to give you a bit of background, I had private meetings with both George Graham and David Pleat during the course of the last 48 hours. These conversations related to what was happening at the club, the strategy of the club, what we were going to do in terms of improving the playing squad and investing in the club's activities. It was an all round discussion including the club's purchasing record.

Yesterday I had discussions with the agents of Sol Campbell, Les Ferdinand and Darren Anderton and then I read in the papers this morning the statements that George Graham made yesterday to the press about lack of ambition, lack of attitude and funds or whatever - which is complete distortion of the conversation that we had. It was very selective and inappropriate in any event. They were inappropriate observations to the press in relation to the club's activities in a private conversation that I had with him and David.

It was absolutely appalling in fact, what happened, specifically at such a delicate time in negotiations with Sol Campbell, whose main interest in relation to the club is to see some ambition in what's going on.

I asked George to come in at lunch time today so I could talk to him about it and understand what had happened, whether it was right or wrong or indifferent. His comments back to me were very aggressive, he was very defensive and didn't feel there were any problems in relation to that.

He was quite agressive in relation to the meeting that we'd had in any event and it was absolutely clear to me that he was in a situation where he felt there was no longer the need to defend himself in any capacity.

I thought long and hard about it, I am trying to build a big team here, I am trying to build a team where we are all cohesive from top to bottom. I know the timing is appalling, but the club dismissed him and he is no longer manager of the club.

We are really very lucky indeed to have David Pleat, whose been manager here before and has got a real Spurs history and has stepped into the breach before. He will help us through the next few games if we need and will look at all aspects of what is required to have a winning semi-final against Arsenal.

I did not anticipate this, despite a lot of pressure from many fans who were looking for change. I was not in a mood to make any change. George Graham had a contract which had to run, the club had a semi-final, there was no question of making any change in my mind and I haven't spoken to any other manager about this job here.

But we were rather pushed into a corner, we responded, and are lucky to have David Pleat. Now we're really going to think about the future - where we want to go, how we're going to get the heart and soul back in relation to the club.

Make no bones, there is huge ambition to make this club more successful on a consistent basis. There is also money available and it is wrong for people to say there is no money available. There is money available.

I have been quoting to both George and David an eight-figure sum that can be invested in players, but, where we are now, we're going to re-look, re-think and hopefully  have success in the very near future.

Thank you, I look forward to making contact again with you soon. I will post regular updates on the website to keep you all informed with what's going on.

Graham's whinging

A statement put out by Graham's advisors says :

"Mr Graham has already instructed his solicitors to deal with this matter and will be issuing legal proceedings very shortly if the club does not honour his contract.

"George Graham was shocked and extremely upset to have been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur today just two weeks before the most important game of the season for the club. When David Buchler told him that they were relieving him of his duties because he had told a press conference that the club had only a limited budget for football transfers, Mr Graham was stunned and could not believe that such a flimsy excuse was being given for his dismissal.

"George Graham said: 'I feel intensely sorry for the fans that the money men who now run the club are endangering the club's morale at this time. Anyone who cares for Spurs will see this is a bizarre and inexplicable decision. 'Every club has a limited budget and to say that I have broken some confidence in revealing this 'secret' just demonstrates how little the new owners understand about the game.

"The saddest element for me is that the club had started putting together a great run of results and I had managed to build a wonderful team spirit. All of this is now at risk'. Mr Graham believes that ENIC always intended to sack him when they came in and for them to say that it was him who had 'his own agenda' was untrue and a complete reversal of the facts."

11th March 01 - WEST HAM UNITED 2-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Walking in a Rebrov Wonderland - brilliant performance and a well deserved win in a great cup tie Click for Match Report

Sullivan (9/10) – Another set of brilliant saves just when he was needed – again a true hero

Doherty (7/10) – A fine match against the West Ham attack and took his goal well

Campbell (8/10) – Was up for this like no other and produced another great performance. Was unlucky not to score with a great shot in the second half. His reaction at the end said it all – a True yiddo, who just wants to be a winning Yiddo

Perry (6/10) – Played well and did some good defensive work, but gave away a couple of dangerous free kicks, one of which resulted in a goal

Young (8/10) – A great match in what could be his position at left wing back for us. Strong defensively and nearly scored a couple, although he was at fault for the second goal.

Freund (8/10) – For the second time in six weeks he completely neutralized Joe Cole and had a fine match in the midfield battleground. This was his sort of match and he was great.

King (7/10)  - A class act in the middle and did well for the team in attack and defense

Clemence (7/10) – His best match for ages restored to the middle of the midfield and like King did lots of good work all over the pitch.

Iversen (6/10) -  A tough match to return from injury in, but without doing anything spectacular, did his bit for the team.

Rebrov (8/10) – Missed a good chance early on but took both his goals brilliantly and had a good all round match

Ferdinand (7/10) – Looked up for this match and played really well causing West Ham problems every time he had the ball

My thoughts on the match Spurs in the 6th Round

Spurs vs West Ham in the cup

Thoughts on the big match

This is the biggest match for a while for Tottenham, not only being our last hope to salvage something from a desperately disappointing season, but to maintain our great record when the year ends in one.

Despite their cup wins, West Ham have had a dodgy time since Christmas culminating in a 3-0 defeat by the Arse, followed by Chelsea beating them 2-0 all within the last week. Will Spurs be the ones to claim the hat-trick of Derby defeats in a week? and if so it has to be 1-0. They seem to have all their best players coming back, apart from Pearce and will be a very strong side.

Spurs as well have had little cheer for most of the season, with the highlight being the comeback to beat Charlton in the 4th round. Spurs have many good players out - Carr, Anderton, Armo,Treacle and Leo (along with Fatcha), but also have a number returning inc Perry, Iversen, Davies and Rebrov which should enable Graham to pick a strongish team, with cover for all positions.

My team would be Sully in goal, a back three of Perry, Campbell and Doherty, five across the middle starting with Young at left half, Freund, Davies, King and Iversen as right wing half where he plays for Norway, with Les and Rebrov up front.

Whatever team Graham picks they have got to strong and play as a unit against a West Ham team that attack very well and have kept clean sheets at both ManU and Sunderland. I hope these wins with no pressure work against West Ham who are favourites to go through

I think we need to win this at Upton Park, as a replay might not suit us (two of the years ending in 1 when we have not won the FA Cup we have lost at home after an away draw - Liverpool 1971 a0-0, h0-1 and Blackburn 1911 a0-0, h0-2).

I cannot see us scoring many - as ever ;-( under Graham, but hopefully we can keep another clean sheet against West Ham and hope that someone (Rebrov?) pops up with a goal at the other end. It will be very difficult if West Ham take the lead, and Spurs must make sure that if West Ham win the game, that it was not a result of Tottenham throwing it away.

All we can expect is for Tottenham to play as well as they can, if they do that I will be a happy, and if they can sneak a win I will be delighted (although I will contain my delight until the tube out of East London has reached Stepney Green at least! - COME ON YOU SPURS!!
