31st August 2001 – Tottenham Trust Statement & Daily Round up

A framework for the future relationship between the Trust and Spurs has been established following a meeting between Trust representatives Joff Wild and Jonathan Adelman and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on 30th August. During the course of the conversation, a number of issues were discussed including the following:

1. The club has confirmed that it recognises the Trust as the official voice of Tottenham supporters.

2. Daniel Levy has agreed to regular meetings between himself and nominated members of the Trust committee to be elected at the AGM in October.

3. Further regular meetings will be organised between Trust representatives and Spurs officials responsible for specific areas of the club such as Community Relations and the Ticket Office.

4. The aim of all these meetings is to encourage a closer relationship between decision makers at Tottenham and the fans.

5. The club has agreed that the Trust will be consulted on all issues affecting Tottenham Hotspur's relationship with its fanbase, this includes pricing decisions and the redevelopment of White Hart Lane.

6. A system to allow fans to purchase tickets on-line is to be introduced at the end of September.

7. Once the first Trust committee is elected, a series of open Q&A sessions for Trust members will be organised by the Trust and the club. It is hoped that senior figures from inside the club will attend these sessions as well as figures from the club's past.

In addition, it was made clear that over the last few months the club has signed the players that Glenn Hoddle has asked to sign and that no deal has fallen through because the club was unwilling to fork out the necessary amount of money. It seems that funds are available but that Glenn Hoddle will only go ahead with a deal if he believes that the player AND the price are right.

The Spurs official site had this to say about the meeting between the Trust and Levy

Chairman Daniel Levy today met with representatives of the Tottenham Trust as the club’s determined policy of working closely with supporters took another step forward.

The Trust, recognised by Tottenham Hotspur as the official voice of Spurs supporters, will now meet regularly with the Chairman and also with other relevant members of the management team as the need arises.

Joff Wild, Chairman of the Trust’s steering committee, and secretary Jonathan Adelman, were at the Lane to ensure that good lines of communication were established in advance of their AGM in October which will see the Trust’s inaugural elections.

Subjects discussed included the club’s work in the community with an offer from the Trust to assist in getting the club’s message across in this vital area.  All matters concerning our relationship with our fanbase – in terms of forward planning like possible redevelopment of the stadium and future pricing decisions – would now follow consultations with the Trust.

It was also revealed that on-line ticket sales would be introduced on this site next month enabling potential purchasers to literally ‘sit’ in their chosen seat and assess the view from that particular point in the stadium.  And, following input from supporters, there will be a review of ticket office operations to make booking seats an easier process.

To enhance our relationship, two Trust members will be invited to watch a game from the Director’s Box this season and we would continue the popular question and answer sessions with senior members of our coaching staff following the successful launch of the forum by vice-chairman David Buchler in the summer.

The Trust was also encouraged to bring forward their own ideas and initiatives now that a regular platform has been established for a healthy exchange of views.

Commented Joff Wild:  “We are delighted that a positive framework for communication has been established and that the club is clearly willing to listen to its supporters. Today’s excellent meeting demonstrates that there is a mutual policy of goodwill between us.”

Added Daniel Levy:  “We have always accepted that this club is nothing without its supporters and, although there are some hard decisions to be made, I am confident that we can move forwards together. Our strength is that both club and supporters share a mutual dream and that can only be achieved by us all working as one.”

Gooners cacking it already - The following comes from an Arse site – they are worried that their ponsey players need 6 days to play against Australia and fly back to the UK. Read and laugh – as if we would move the game back to help them & Champions League, November and Arsenal are not normally words you would assoiciate in the same sentence.

Jet lag threat for Spurs game

Four key Arsenal players - Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and Sylvain Wiltord will fly back from Australia to face Spurs on 17 November. France have arranged to play Australia on 11 November.

Arsenal can’t move the Spurs match to Sunday, because they play in the Champions League the following week.

30th August 2001 – Daily Round up – Reuser, Mboma & of course ENIC

Great link of the day 1 – Reuser – Already in my fantasy football team “Rsol Campbell’s Gloria Gaynor record collection” – Reuser is one of the top players in the country in the attacking midfield role and would be an excellent buy. Today he uttered a really obvious come and get me and ENIC will need to act on this if the few left that are willing to give them a chance are to carry on believing that the money is there. Reuser, in his own words:

Reuser told his official website: "I've been told there are some rumours going around of Spurs being interested in me. The main thing I have got to say about this is that I'm really flattered. Tottenham are a big club with a magnificent stadium at White Hart Lane. I remember our first away game of last season, although we lost that game I have to say the atmosphere made a big impression on me."
The ex-Ajax man says stories like these do little damage to a player: "I can't see why rumours like these could ever harm a player; to me it's nothing more than a great compliment. Ipswich did great last year and I'm very proud to say I played my part. Other clubs noticing our skills and talents is very satisfying, but I must stress that I have had no contact from Spurs and, as far as I know, neither have Ipswich."

Great link of the day 2 – Mboma – Former African player of the year and quality striker Patrick Mboma has been linked with Spurs today – in one of those links that looks like it might have some truth in it (you know, a rare one!), but before we get carried away about having our first sub Saharan born player at the lane, a look at his scoring record does not suggest that he is any better than Iversen in putting the ball in the net – which is what we need.

00-01 Parma Played: 20 Scored: 5
99-00 Cagliari Played: 27  Scored: 8
98-99 Cagliari Played: 13 Scored: 7
97-98 G. Osaka Played: 28 Scored: 25
96-97 Paris S.G. Played: 8 Scored: 1
95-96 Metz Played: 17 Scored: 4
94-95 Paris S.G. Played: 8 Scored: 1
93-94 Paris S.G. Played: 0 Scored: 0
92-93 Paris S.G. Played: 0 Scored: 0

While I think we are right to be interested in this quality of player, I don’t think he is necessarily the Jimmy Greaves/Clive Allen that we need to finish off the chances.

Jardel is apparently moving to Sporting Lisbon  - he is the sort player we need

29th August 2001 – Daily Round up – Wupert, ENIC etc

ENIC – There is a groundswell of opinion against ENIC from the majority of Spurs supporters, as our modest start to the season has highlighted that no net money has been spent on new players.

The case against ENIC is all talk no action. Us supporters are right to question the so far empty promises of big name signings and have a right to be wary of ENIC. On the other hand, very reliable people who know a bit more than your ‘umble webmaster (and have an ear cocked towards the top table) have tried to assure me that the money is there when the right player becomes available, and there is no point panic buying.

Both sides are correct at the moment – firstly the supporters are right to complain when there is apparent in action on behalf of the management, but equally the management can only do their best to get players to the club and these things take time. I think we should all take a step back and review the ENIC situation next at Christmas and then at the end of the season after the world cup – when there really will be no excuses for at least some of the £30m we have in the transfer kitty to be spent.

The other thing they could do while they are waiting is give Pleaty £5m to pick up some of the young talent coming thro the lower leagues as the money invested in Davies, Gardner and the Doc has proved  a shrewd investment. I hope Pleaty does not fall foul of the new regime, as used in this way, he could be a valuable asset for the club.

Wuuups I did it again – Wupert Lowe, what a two bob little twat. When he’s not getting his club to officially sanction “be a gooner for a day” t-shirts for the semi final, he’s crying like a pussy to the FA about Spurs trying to rescue all his players from his Hampshire Khazi. He is a 100% new football arsehole in the David Mellor mould and deserves all he gets.

Richards – The good news to come from Wupert’s crybabying was that Spurs have given up on Richards – thank f**k for that. A club statement said “We have withdrawn our interest in Southampton centre-half Dean Richards. Southampton have said that they will not take a penny less than £10 million for the player. We offered £4 million and were prepared to be flexible but the Saints were not.

Now we can concentrate on getting the two quality central midfielders and striker that we urgently require.

Doc off Rap – More good news is that the Doc will have his red card at Everton wiped – but that still does not get away from the fact that Everton scored an equaliser from the wrong decision and reduced Spurs to 10 and then 9 men – as Poyet’s indiscretions were as a result of the Doc sending off, and still mean we lose Poyet for three games all stemming from a crap bit of refereeing and a cheatin ex-gooner.

Deadwood for the Deadheads – The latest club linked with shovelling Sherwood up is Man Shitty, and good riddance – they deserve each other. A little bird tells me that Sherwood is not in fact injured (much like Rebrov) and that he does not figure in Hoddle's plans. Lets hope this is true and we get a good price for the clapped out old git, as everyone apart from those who have watched him over the last year still think of him as Championship captain (and, ho ho, England international)

Torquay on Weds 12th September – After having to miss the Southampton match as a result of a family holiday which finishes on 11th Sept, I was delighted that the club announced tonight that the Torquay match will be on the Weds so I don’t miss another. This game is good for both clubs, the Gulls can expect a much needed cash injection of £100,000 and we should n’t have too much trouble in progressing to the next round. Tickets will be at our the 'Standard' game rate with concessions available for both the North and South Stands. Members will be able to purchase tickets from 10am on Thursday August 30 and non-members from 10am, Monday September 3. See the official site for more details.

Clem and the rest of the Injuries – It looks bad for Clem as the bad tackle that knobbled him at Blackburn could be ligament damage and could keep him out til Christmas. While I don’t rate Clemence as a player, no one can fault his effort and we hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Happy Birthday – Steve Carr – & get well soon, we need you

Last but not least – New logo – Many thanks to Graphic designer and Spurs fan Michael who has designed the new spinning badge on the front page – visit his site whenever you need some quality graphics at http://www.pompom.org.uk/

26th August 2001 – Virgin Trains are C#@$%

Just tried to book my tickets for the Liverpool Spurs match on 22nd Sept – an all the discounted fares are gone and the cheapest ticket is £49.40. This is not the first time they have done this and they are utter utter scum.

I am going to try and do something about them because they are the only rail company that stitches people up like this – similar trips like Leeds are always much cheaper. If you have any Branson nightmares – email me bransonisawanker@topspurs.com

26th August 2001 – The Blackburn trip (MATCH REPORT NOW UP)

Blackburn 2-1 Spurs – Just got back from Blackpool (where we stayed and made a weekend out of the Blackburn match). It was disappointing to lose to Blackburn, but Spurs played ok and would have at least drawn the match if the finishing had been better – Iversen again was rubbish.

Despite the result – the trip was excellent and the FernHurst pub before the game was great – a designated pub for away fans and all the Spurs were in excellent voice – notably “you can stick your sol Campbell up your arse, singing we got Ledley at the back”

Hello mate

Compared to some of the away defeats last season - abject surrenders with no hope, the was a decent performance. Spurs controlled the match for long periods - but were seriously lacking up front. Iversen was crap and fucked up a one on one near the end that was embarrassing. For me he is on a par with the late Ian Moores.

Anderton is not a central midfielder and the sooner Glennda realises that Davies should get preference ahead of him the better. Ziege got a lot of stick from fans - but I think he is ok (he style does make him look lazy) and he could be one of the central midfielders we need

Sheringham was excellent, as was Sully, King, Perry and the Doc. Treacle was also good, but looks like people will pick on him now cos of the Graveson thing.

Souness is a c**t and when he got off the touchline to have a go - he went up to treacle who had nothing to do with Perry's tackle. When it all calmed down, Spurs restarted with a throw - there was nothing wrong with Mr Ed's tackle and Souness was stirring. I had the honour to start the chant of "Tottenham reject". Poyet was quiet and Freund did not play to well when he got an early chance after clem's injury

Unfortunately we have 13 days to stew before the next match, but we should remember this is only Hoddle’s 10th match in charge and we are already looking better in terms of performance - the results will come - we just need to trust in the man (and hope ENIC come up with the money, which I have been assured is there £18m+£15 to replace Sol, with additional facilities in case the likes of Shevchenko becomes available)

Spurs are getting there, but slowly – Hoddle need to see with his own eyes that Anderton will never ever be a central midfielder, Davies will be a great central midfielder, Iversen is shite etc

24th August 2001 – The weekend & the daily round up

The weekend – I will be off to the match on Saturday a day early, taking time to visit the seaside resort of Blackpool – watching Tony Adam’s relatives give rides to kids on the beach – so the site will not be updated til Sunday night at the earliest.

Daily round up – After Hoddle’s comments about Rebrov needing to buck his ideas up on Monday, followed by his non appearance in the squad for the Everton match – I began to take a rumour I had heard about Hoddle seeking to offload the little Ukrainian more seriously. Another snout revealed that Rebrov does not have an injury and that he has been dropped, while awaiting a transfer. How much of this do we believe? Normally I would n’t bother to highlight such stuff but think there might be something in this – although I also think that Hoddle’s tactics should suit Rebrov and I did not think he did that badly against Villa. Lets hope this is a misunderstanding and that as the season goes on we will see more of the hero of the West Ham match, rather than an unhappy and underperforming potential star.

The word is that Doherty has had his card reduced to a yellow (for a foul he did not commit and a goal that cost us two points – thanks!) and even worse – Poyet will have a three match ban for complaining to the ref about a non existent penalty and sending off. Madness, more of it.

Team news does not look that clever either with Bunje and Anderton both carrying knocks from Monday’s heroics, although new ITV presenter Sir Les should be ok, as should Rebrov – if the g’vnor decides he wants to play him! In saying that – Spurs should win this match through the inspiration of Poyet and the class of the likes of Anderton Sheringham Taricco and Ziege – with Ledders, Doc, Bunny and Sully all holding firm at the back. Come on you Spurs!!!

23rd August 2001 – Visitor 100,000 today!

TOPSPURS milestone – in less than a year since topspurs in its original guise when online on the evening before the Everton match on 5th September 2000 – the site should receive its 100,000th visitor during today. Currently the site gets an average of 1,200 hits a day and is growing at around 10% a week.

I’d like to say a big thank you to you all for coming to topspurs & lets hope the next 12 months and beyond will be a return to the good times for Spurs – COME ON YOU SPURS!

21st August 2001 – Marxists & the Sherwood questionnaire

Marxists As a youth, when the old USSR was still about, my old Russian studies lecturer at University told us about Marx and he said the most important thing to take from the great bearded one’s work was that it is important to understand the structures, and not get hung up on the surface manifestations.

In a Spurs context –this means take a step back. No knee jerk reactions to bad or good performances. Ledley King has always been a star in my eyes – check my views on him over the last year. But only since his heroics on Monday are people saying that he will replace, and eventually be better than Rsol. These same people will be clamouring for a big money buy if he has bad match. Be a footballing Marxist – look at the structures – understand the good from the bad!

The future is bright – and even though there will be some downs on the way, the general trend is up – and soon, possibly sooner than some of us dare to dream – we can be back at the top. Come on you Spurs!

The Sherwood questionnaire My fellow webmaster Lee at from the terraces (see links section for web address) – just about the only decent commercial Spurs site has been inundated with messages of support for Sherwood. He, like myself is a little baffled by this – and I have come up with the Sherwood questionnaire – Sherwood Lovers answer these:

Do they know when was the last Sherwood goal
Do they like to see midfielders give the ball away
Do they like to see midfielders pass the ball backwards all time
Do they like to see midfielders point a lot
Do they like to see midfielders give hospital balls, on the rare attempts at passing the ball forward
Do they like to see midfielders be a closet gooner
Do they like to see midfielders have bay city roller haircuts

Remember the Arsenal song for him - "he comes from Boreham wood, he's not very f**king good, oh Tim Sherwood, ooooh" to Volare

http://www.spurs.co.uk/article.asp?article=57313 Maybe it was n't just RSol who had a collection of Gloria Gaynor records at the club

21st August 2001 – Calm Down Calm Down!

What a match and what a reaction. It looks as though Spurs will appeal against the sendings off – Doherty should get off completely, while Poyet should get his ban reduced from three to one match. Fans from both sides have come together to condemn the ref who spoilt the game for both sets of fans.

It was 9 more heroes of sorts tonight as Rsol’s home debut saw A*****l go down 2-1 to Leeds ‘-)

20th August 2001 – 9 men heroes gain a famous point at Goodison - www.topspurs.com/0102-a-efc.htm - for the match report

20th August 2001 – Fingers Crossed for tonight & Sealey

Top of the League Lets hope we make our class show tonight and get a good win up at Goodison. Everton, while on a high after their win at Charlton will not be easy opponents, but our attacks will not be met with such staunch resistance as Villa showed on Saturday. Come on you Spurs, give us all that lift we missed on Saturday.

For team news – see www.topspurs.com/0102-a-efc.htm

Les Sealey I was saddened to hear of the death of former Man U, Luton and Coventry (as well as many others)  Keeper Les Sealey who died of a heart attack earlier today. Les played for over 20 years and was well liked both within the game and by fans. Are thoughts are with his family

20th August 2001 – Hoddle on New Centre back & Team News for Everton

Hoddle has been quoted as saying over the weekend " You need the right balance with experience and I'm on record as saying we still need another centre half. Hopefully, we will go in with an improved offer for Dean some time later this week. We need one or two more players yet because the aim here is to get a squad that can carry a few injuries to key players. We haven't got that yet but there are several in the Premiership who can afford to be without three or four top players and still be challenging at the top. Having said that, the youngsters who had to play last season when we had a lot of injuries when I came in will have benefited from that."

On Ledley King, Hoddle singled him out for some special praise
"I was very encouraged to see Ledley give a performance like that, On the ball and defensively he's very strong and although he's not got Sol's presence or pace, he's probably ahead of him in his use of the ball at the same age. He has done a lot of work on the training ground and he is the type who will grow in ability with more games."

Team News: It looks like being a straight swap, Sheringham for Ferdinand, who’s injury is not too bad but the Everton game (where he has more than a goal a game against them) will come too soon for him. My idea would be to push Rebrov up and give Davies a crack at on of the two forward midfield roles, or even replace Clem with him, just to get him in the team.

19th August 2001 – Shite Refs, Cheating Gooners, god awful ITV & More ENIC price hikes

Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa – click for Match Report

Shite Ref’s & Shite TV – Yesterday was the first time “Professional” Refs were used at White Hart Lane, and Dermot Gallagher gave a disgraceful show, which was either inept or corrupt when him and his Blunkett-esque linesman failed to see the most blatant penalty I’ve seen that has not been given. It was disgraceful. The rest of his performance was dreadful as well – letting Rebrov get fouled everytime he received the ball, and making players move the ball back 5 yards when they are in their own half. A 100% ponce!

And to make matters worse, the worst dive I have ever seen won Arsenal a penalty at Middlesborough when England reject Ashley Cole showed his true Gooner-ness when he flung himself to the ground to con the ref into awarding Arsenal  a penalty and getting Ugo E sent off

And if all this wasn’t bad enough, we had to watch it on ITV – What a pile of crap, which ranged from the embarrassing (Andy Townsend doing his analysis) to the just plain bad (10 seconds on 4 matches within a 90 minute programme, and no post match comments from the managers). Dismal shite, and they’ve not even wheel Bob Wilson out yet! They should make MOTD one of the listed Sports and give it back, ASAP.

And I’ll save the last moan for ENIC – 20% increase in Programme Price

19500 Season ticket holders – all paying an average of £60 for the two cup games that were stolen (Money Made £,1,70,000)

19500 Season ticket holders – all had their 10% discount removed (Money Made £0)

36058 supporters stuffed with a 20% increase in programme price (Money Made £190,000, 20000 sold per match)

Add this to all the extra TV money, and we should be able to do a lot better in the transfer market than we have. Some of this money better be spent (and wisely) by Christmas, otherwise the disenchantment amongst ordinary supporters will continue to grow and grow. Honeymoon period of getting Hoddle is being replaced by a cold war type wait and see.

Always remember Hoddle =/= ENIC, and while we are 100% behind Glennda for hopefully the next 10 years or more, ENIC need to earn our respect, and have little to show apart from empty promises and snide rip offs at this early stage. We wait & hope.

18th August 2001 – Today we stand on the precipice of Greatness

TopSpurs Comments for the New SeasonTomorrow is not the be all and end all. After a summer of expectation, with the topspurs countdown clock ticking down to 1500GMT, 18th August 2001, expectations are sky high, made even stronger by the disappointments we have suffered since Sugar “saved” the club back in 1991, and again in 1993.

It would be great to do Villa, and with a couple of reasonable away matches, be top of the League this time next week – but we should be realistic – Hoddle needs time (and eventually a decent budget) to shape the team in his own image, especially the defence which needs to develop as a unit under his system. We hammered Southampton 7-2 soon after he took over, but less than a year later that same defence made up of two bob players went 7 Premiership matches without conceding a goal.

After the bad men and sad men we have had in control of the club over the last few disappointing years, we need to give Hoddle, the best young manager in England and our last and only hope of every regaining our rightful place at the top table of English and European football – our 100% unflinching support.

So Spurs fans unite and sing up for the Spurs  - for this is the start of something brilliant – COME ON YOU SPURS (Friday, 17 August 2001, 11:44:23 PM)

Latest news - Squad:  Sullivan, Doherty, Bunjevcevic, King, Ziege, Taricco, Freund, Clemence, Poyet, Ferdinand, Rebrov, Keller, Perry, Davies, Anderton, Iversen, Piercy, Thelwell

Team should be (1-3-2-3-2): Sully - Doc, Bunje, King - Taricco(Anderton?), Freund, Poyet, Anderton(Davies?), Ziege - Rebrov, Sir Les - Subs - Keller, Perry, Davies/Taricco, Piercy, Iversen - COME ON YOU SPURS!

17th August 2001 – Captain Ted, New Logo & Dozy

New Spurs CaptainTeddy Sheringham has been named the new captain of Tottenham by Glenn in succession to the departed Sol Campbell. Glenn has patiently assessed the candidates before making a decision and stressed that he views the captaincy as a vital role and as an extension of his coaching staff.

Les Ferdinand, who has captained the team in pre-season, and Tim Sherwood, have been named as vice-captains. Fuck me Sherwood – ahead of Poyet!!!!! Bollocks to that. Well done for appointing Ted, but Poyet and Ferdinand next surely.

and its what we all wanted, apart from Poyet being Vice captain! (please note this poll was started before Carr started to shout his mouth off about a move to Barcelona)

Hoddle signs a new Psycho Hoddle has got his backroom man. Top sports psychologist John Syer, who has finally started work for Spurs after leaving Southampton.  Hoddle originally wanted the country's leading team-building expert to join the club when he quit Southampton to replace sacked George Graham last season.

Hoddle told Standard Sport: "There was never any doubt that I wanted him. I wanted to take him when I first came to Tottenham. He has not been under contract at Southampton and was always going to join us this summer."

Syer - who played hockey for Scottish Command, volleyball for Great Britain and was national coach and director of the Scottish Volleyball Association for a decade - has extensive experience having worked with Chris Boardman and the British Cycling Federation for the last 10 years and American Football team the Cleveland Browns.

Syer formed his company in 1979 and pioneered sports psychology in mental training during the Eighties. He also worked with Watford and Queens Park Rangers. He and partner Chris Connelly have now worked with national sporting teams in Britain, Europe and the USA.

Dozy - Dozy could be forced to quit the game due to a troublesome toe injury which is refusing to heal.
Dozzell missed most of the second half of last season at Colchester United after picking up the problem, and has also sat out most of the pre-season programme. An attempted comeback in the reserves this week also saw him limp off, prompting fears his career could be over at the age of 33. Dozzell moved from Ipswich to Tottenham for £1.9million in August 1993 and played almost 100 games for Spurs before a brief return to Portman Road in the 1997-98 season.

Topsurs loves Dozy and wishes the great man all the best

15th August 2001 – Richards for £4m? Ginola taking Gregory to court?

The Dean Richards Saga – he is going to sign, its just a matter of when and how much.

STATEMENT FROM SOUTHAMPTON FOOTBALL CLUB - CHAIRMAN'S OFFICE RE: DEAN RICHARDS
"Tottenham Hotspur today made an offer of £4,000,000 for the registration of the above player in either cash or by way of player exchange. We have rejected this offer unreservedly both verbally and in writing. Dean Richards has four years remaining on his contract with Southampton and both he and his agent have been informed of the current situation. The timing and level of this offer are unfortunate and unrealistic and follow a period of Press speculation about Dean Richards' career. We believe that the way in which Tottenham Hotspur have behaved goes against the spirit of the wording of the protocol which clubs signed up to at the Premier League summer meeting in June.

In my dreamier moments I hope that it is a straight player exchange – with Thatcher – this would represent great business, and now that sums on or around £4-6m are being mentioned I am more happy about him signing. He may not be my idea of someone better than King, Gardner or Doherty, but if Hoddle rates him, then that’s cool – just as long as he gives King, Gardner or Doherty a chance to build on the excellent impression they created last season.

I would normally feel a bit sorry for the Southampton, but they were well into their “be a gooner for a day” thing during the semi, so fuck em, especially their arsehole chairman Wupert.

David Ginola is contemplating legal fight with his club Aston Villa, claiming he was subjected to defamatory remarks about his physique. Professional Footballers Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has been in touch with Villa boss John Gregory and chairman Doug Ellis in an attempt to resolve the matter.

"David is not happy with Aston Villa and the comments made by the manager,"
Taylor said. "He feels they affected him and his family and in any other job such comments

14th August 2001 – The best thing since “Draw Paulo Tramenzanni”?

The club, bless em – think that their doppelgangers are funny! It is, but we are laughing at rather than with them. The latest offering is Sully and Larry Hagman

Neil Sullivan v Larry Hagman

Steven James Watson reckons Super Sully bears a likeness to the old Dallas smoothy JR Ewing, aka Larry Hagman."

Although it is not a patch on the Ricky Villa and my mate with a beard

Ian Cotterill writes: "My mate is a die-hard Spurs fans from 'Ackney, now living in Oz and is a mad 'Jimmy Greaves is God' type. I reckon he looks like Ricky Villa - dead ringer or what?"

I'll get me coat!

14th August 2001 – Spurs sign Keller, and Richards a matter of time?

First things first – read a preview of the forthcoming season from Daniel Wynne www.topspurs.com/thfc-article20.htm - and don’t forget - if you would like to write about anything Spurs related or would like a column at topspurs to give an alternative view of things, please mail me

Keller – This represents another excellent bit of business for the summer. Keller was a better than average Premiership keeper during his time with Leicester and represents another good signing. Check his details at

http://www.topspurs.com/kkeller.htm

Richards – Rumour and agent talk escalates around Richards which probably means that we have made it obvious to Richards that we want him and he has reacted like a player who wants to go. The only problem will be Rupert the Arse and making him accept a reasonable fee like £5M. I’ve got no great opinion on Richards – I think we can do better, but also know that Hod knows best and if he really wants him, then that’s fine by me (even though he has the same sort of profile as Perry).

Carr – Carr has announced that he will miss the Villa match and presumably the Everton match. Rumour suggests  that he still wants away and the club will listen to very large offers. This is rumour, but if true, disappointing. It would be nice if he would see out a season doing his best in an unassuming way as he did before all the deserved plaudits swelled his head. He never seemed to get injured much then, which judging by Anderton is another trait of fame. We still love you Stevie, but get back to being the Carr that was player of the year rather than just a dissatisfied whinger!

13th August 2001 – AEK Athens 2-1 Spurs & Two more signings (honest)!

Spurs lost 2-1 in Athens in after taking the lead thro Poyet. Spurs team: Sullivan, Tarrico, King (Thelwell 64), Freund, Bunjevcevic, Doherty (Perry 46), Clemence, Ziege, Poyet (Davies 73), Iversen (Ferdinand 46), Rebrov

Two more signings: Hoddle "I will make two additions to the team before the start of the season, a goalkeeper and a central defender."

Dean Richards and Kasey Keller then? Lets hope we don’t pay too much for Richards, but at least it will piss Rupert the Arse off at Southampton, hopefully consigning them to Div 1

12th August 2001 – Hoddle Furious at the Rsol Chants – Part 3 & Final word

Hoddle & the Campbell chantsAsk the following question

What is the difference between singing "Stand up/clap you hand if you hate Arsenal" for at least once a match since I started going in the early 1970's and likely before that

and after the events of the summer - using Campbell as a surrogate for Arsenal in singing "Stand up/clap you hand if you hate Campbell"

To be as positive as possible we should put this debate behind us, tell the media to fuck off and get on with looking forward to what is going to be a great season with Spurs.

11th August 2001 – Hoddle Furious – Part 2 , Dean Richards – Part 12, New Keeper - Part 102

Hoddle & the Campbell chantsHoddle said “I personally am not happy when I hear the abuse that Sol is getting. Yes we were disappointed at the time but that is now history. I would rather our supporters turned their energies to supporting and getting behind us and actually putting pressure on opposing sides rather than talk about what is going on down the road. To me it’s a big negative that needs to go away quickly. It is not doing our club any good whatsoever. I want our fans to be positive and focussed purely on what we are doing. Anything else is just a waste of time and energy.”

Lots of good points here from Glennda, but it should not be misconstrued – Spurs fans we very vocal and 100% behind the team for virtually all the match – and chanted the stand up if you hate Rsol 4 possibly 5 times only, and everytime had EVERYONE standing up and singing along. It was not the only song and it took nothing away from the night.

As long as this is not the only sing we sing, it is ok. The footballing millionaires do seem to be out of touch with the opinion on the ground

The Scum Newspaper - Cops are probing death threats made against Campbell on the Tottenham website and yobs hijacked ex-Spurs boss Bill Nicholson's testimonial on Wednesday by chanting abusive songs about their former skipper.

Hoddle & Dean RichardsHoddle said “I’ve gone on record to say that Deano is one on the list. He is one on the list but we’ll see where that takes us. As far as I’m concerned we made contact a couple of weeks ago with the club. At the moment nothing is happening, that’s how it is.

It looks like it will be when and not if – lets hope we get him at a realistic price for an uncapped 27 year old with two seasons premiership experience
