Its lucky for Spurs when the year ends in one...........and its pretty lucky when we get drawn against a London team in the third round!!
I was in the queue for me Orient tickets when an old bloke said we usually do well in the cup when we get another London team in the third round. Nothing could brighten my mood at having to get out of bed early to queue up in the cold for the tickets on the morning before the Boro match last month, but this got me thinking.
I went back to the stats and sure enough four of the last six times we've won the cup we've drawn London opposition in third round (our other third round draws before we were successful were a windy 1-0 at Blackpool in 1991 and after a replay against Birmingham in1962).
Even when we don't progress to the final, we have a pretty good record against our various neighbours, going through nine times out of 12, with our last defeat being in the mid 60's against Chelsea.
Top of the list of the games would have to be the 1-0 win against the Arse in 1982, where Crooksie embarrassed Jennings for the winner, although Graham Roberts' heroics in goal for the injured Clemence away at Fulham in 1984 deserved better than a next round exit to Norwich - I can still see him diving full length to save a free kick now. A true hero.
Lets hope we can make it five from seven come May in Cardiff!!

I was one of the lucky ones to get a ticket, so I'll be having an afternoon in Leyton in the appallingly names Matchroom Stadium, Brisbane Road with a mate who is a yiddo from an Orient supporting family. Like Barnet, many Spurs supporters have the odd match at either Barnet or Orient each season when Spurs are away or not playing. I took advantage of a Tottenham-less weekend last autumn to watch the O's scramble past Hartlepool 2-1 in a dire match - where most of the crowd were calling for the head of both the chairman and manager (sounds familiar, must be a North East London thing ;-) , and even though they have returned to the form that saw them reach the third division play offs the season before last, and like us are unbeaten at home in the league I think, I don't think we'll have too much trouble progressing to the next round. Spurs should stick with the side and formation that started against Newcastle, with Armo replacing the hopeless Korsten on the bench. I think we'll win 2-0, which is a modest 6-1 shot at the bookies and its difficult to look past Rebrov or Les for the first goal.
