Premiership review from South Africa's Prashunt Lutchman (who writes exclusively for this site)
Man City vs Man Utd
Massive match this, and one that is difficult to call, as City
haven't been around for a while. What is easy to call
however, is that City will relish this chance at cutting Utd down.
This is probably going to be their biggest match in 4 seasons...their
Cup final if you will! Everyone knows that Utd has the
ability to score goals. They have more big occasion
experience than City, and I think that this BMT will shade things
in their favour. I expect City to come out with all guns
blazing, and try for the early goal to unsettle Utd.
However, as the match progresses, Utd with Ke*ne and Beckh*m
pulling the strings, will wear them down.
Prediction 1-2 (Wanchope; Beckh*m, Yorke)
Newcastle vs Sunderland
Another big derby match. Passions run high whenever these
two meet. Witness the sacking of Gullit - a direct result
of Newcastle's loss to Sunderland. This match pits last
season's two most prolific strikers (Shearer and Phillips)
against each other. After their better than expected start to the
season, Newcastle have failed to impress in recent matches.
However the same can also be said of Sunderland. A
intriging match if nothing else! I reckon that these two
have more to lose than to gain. Hence my verdict of a
drawn match.
Prediction 1-1 (Solano; Phillips)
Everton vs Arsenal
Arsenal will have to improve vastly over last week's performance,
if they are to win this match. Strangely enough, they (like
Man Utd) always seems to get a result at Everton. Everton
for their part, are a team that is extremely difficult to predict.
Still, Arsenal will surely not play as badly as last week, will
they? In Henry, Wiltord, Bergkamp and Kanu they firepower to
match any side in the world, bar none! Arsenal to win this
one at a canter!
Prediction: 0-3
Southampton vs Villa
A Saints side that have surprised a few teams play a revitalised
Villa outfit. I doubt that the Saints are good enoug to
beat Villa.
Prediction : 0-0
Derby vs Bradford
Surely if Derby are to stay in the Premiership, they have to win
these type of matches (and a good few others). Bradford
after a good start in their first three matches, have fallen
apart at the seams. I expect Jim Smith and Collin Todd to
realise their first win of the season.
Prediction: 2-0
Charlton vs Chelsea
Which Chelsea is going to turn up at Charlton? That is
surely the question that both managers will be concerned about.
Curbishley will be hoping for the Chelsea side that travels badly,
and Ranieri for his part will be hoping for the side that came
back from two goals down at Old Traff*rd, and the side that
crushed Liverpool, Coventry and Spurs. This derby match I
think will define Chelsea's season. If they do win, they
could still qualify for the Champion's League. If not, then its
going to be a tough season for the fans, and an even tougher one
financially for Chelsea.
Prediction: 0-1
Coventry vs Ipswich
Once again a difficult match to call! Coventry have got a
decent side, that has baffled many in their inability to win.
Ipswich are riding high after a good two months. Ipswich
are way above their actual or true league position.Coventry at
home however, may just burst that bubble.
Prediction: 2-1
Leeds s West Ham Utd
Big match this for Leeds, wo have far more riding on this game
than West Ham. After their Houdini act against Liverpool,
and their subsequent excellent point at the San Siro (and
Stamford Bridge), I expect Leeds to be brought down to earth.
The Redknapp vs Di Cannio saga could also affect things in the
match with Di Cannio having to prove his worth again.
Prediction: 1-2
Boro vs Leceister
A match that has more riding on it than many realise. If
Boro do not win, Robson will surely be cast aside - even if he is
a friend of the chairman! This match has assumed a Cup
final proportion for Boro, who have a talented but aging side.
In Boksic and Karembeu they have genuine quality. HOwever,
their defence needs attention. If Leceister's season
is to amount to anything, they have to get a result. Zero
points could mean that they drop out of the top 6.
Prediction: 1-1
Spurs vs Liverpool
Spurs have a god home record. Liverpool will miss Heskey.
Fowler and Owen are back to soon after injury, and have yet to
instill confidence as a strike partnership.
Prediction: 2-0
