| Gerald Charles James Francis, went from being called Gerry, to Francis then to Mullethead or the Badger as his fortunes fell away at Spurs. He took over as Spurs manager from Ossie 'all-out-attck' Ardiles in November 1994. Gerry Francis, the player captained England at the age of 23 but due to injury only won 12 England caps. His ability to manage team successfully on a shoestring budget had earmarked him a manager of enormous potential. Francis' first full season in charge at White Hart Lane (1995-6) saw Spurs finish 8th but fail to qualify for Europe. He introduced his own team Roger Cross Des Bulpin as his back room staff. Ossies reign had been eventful, and Francis started off the same way with a 4-3 home defeat by Villa, but this would be our only defeat for ages and Francis had shored up the gaping holes in the Spurs defence to concede only 4 goals in our next 9 games. Spurs had a great cup run with famous wins at Southampton (Ronnie's hatrick) and at Liverpool, but were very very bad in the semi final against Everton and Klinsmann annouced his departure soon after. Spurs were to also lose Barmby and Popescu over the summer and replaced JK with Armo. | |||||||||||||||
| A drab season followed and then it all began to fall apart during the start of the 1997/8 season after Sheringham had been sold the summer before. The 18th of November 1997 it was announced that Mullethead would leave Spurs the followign Monday, the 24 of November. | |||||||||||||||
