| (May 03) Approaching 37,
Sheringham has not been the great player he has been for Spurs but 124 goals
says it all and we wish him well on his way. |
| (Jan 03) Sheringham has
struggled badly at times this season and as you would expect of someone
playing every game with a 37th birthday around the corner. Its time for the
carriage clock and thank you for the great service as we really don't want
him around beyond his current contract |
| (End of season Report 01/02) The younger
half of our pensioner strikers. Like all returns, its was not as good as the
first time - but in the first half of the season Sheringham showed some of
his sublime skills and Spurs purred up the table and progressed in the League
Cup. The problem was that when Ted lost his form, Spurs went with him. Sheringham, with the aid of a couple
of penalties was joint leading scorer in the League and it has to go down as
a decent if not brilliant season but we cannot rely on a 36 year old next
season as a starting striker. |
| (Mar 02) Been out of form
for a while, and this had adversely affected the cohesion of the side. Would
be great for him and Tottenham if he could get it back between now and the
end of the season |
| (Feb 02) There at his best
when it mattered against Chelsea & while his overall performance level
over the past few weeks has been patchy (and his goals to chances ratio needs
improving upon) it is so so so so good to have him back at Tottenham as our
Captain |
| (Dec 01) Has had a bit of
dip in form during November but has started December well with the winner
against Bolton. Allied to his tremendous ability Sheringham is working very
hard all over the pitch and leading the team very well by example and its
great to have him back where he belongs at White Hart Lane. |
| (Oct 01) Pure class and a
joy to watch - an early contender for player of the season |
| (Sept 01) Back to his very
best - winning Evening Standard player of the month with his three goals
(taking his Spurs tally to 101) and excellent overall contribution to the
team. His link play is excellent and is making Anderton play his best
football for Spurs for a while. Has been spotted at reserve matches along
with Hoddle and Gorman, taking his captain's responsibilities very seriously
(who knows, the man to replace Hoddle when the great man becomes director of
football after establishing Spurs as the greatest team in the world over the
next 10 seasons). Great to have him back. |
| (Aug 01) Looked classy on
his return and a worthy captain. |
| (July 01 - Season 2001/02 Expectations) Despite
being older than Ferdinand, Sheringham's main playing assets are his alert
footballing brain, which matures, rather than diminishes with age. Ted's
great strength is that he makes other players play well - Armstrong had his
best season, Shearer who'd not scored for England for 2 years started scoring
freely, and Ted even made the former Arsenal thief score a few during their
non speaking time at Old Trafford. Lets hope that he can make Rebrov come of
age in the Premiership. There is a case for thinking that they are too
similar in style, but as good footballers they should work well together, as
he should with old team mate Anderton and Poyet. One goal for the hundred!,
lets hope its against Villa on day one |
| (May 26th 2001) As expected,
Ted has rejoined Tottenham on a Bosman, exactly a week after he made his last
appearance for Man U at the Lane (co-incidentally, where he also made his
first appearance for Man U back in 1997). At 35, he may not appear to be the
most inspired signing, but Ted is 100% quality and he will be a vital asset
up front next season and should make things a lot easier for Rebrov and might
even bring about an improvement in Anderton. He should be kept away from the
ball on the rare occasions that we get a penalty though ;-). |
