(Aug 04) Richards career at Spurs has been a difficult one starting off with an over inflated fee, a 5-3 defeat and a series of moderate individual performances before  adecent run of form at the start of 2002/3 seemed to explain why we were so keen to sign him before his form fell away again and deteriorated even further when he lost the support of the crowd. With all the new arrivals it seems like his time is up at Spurs when a buyer turns up with the right money.
(Jan 04) Been injured for most of the season and his form has suffered, but while he has not looked that good, no one can doubt his commitment and in this Spurs era he gets the thumbs up for that alone. Will surely get back to his best form once his injury has been sorted and will be helped by having a proper keeper behind him
(Season Preview 02/03) Despite our dreadful defensive record lsat season, Richards emerged with plenty of credit. Its fair to say I was less than delighted when we got worked over by Wupert to stump up £8m for a 28 year old uncapped player in September 2001 and his first season was shaky to say the least. On the back of this, and an error on the opening day at Goodison which let Everton back in for a draw, Richards produced plenty of top quality displays at the back and providing a bit of leadership to a team that often appear to lakc heart. Like the rest of the defence his form suffered with the drop in form since Christmas but he did enough last season to become one of my favourites at the club, there is nothing like having an initial impression altered to make a lasting impression. Richards still runs as if he is holding a peanut between his butt-cheeks, something that has comedy value approaching Perry-esque standards on a good day. If there was any justice in the world, he would be Spurs captain now but in an age of image over substance, Redknapp has won that honour, at least in name.
(Oct 02) Delighted to report that Richards has started the season very well and along with Keller has been our most consistent player in our good start to the season. I'd hoped for an improvement in Richards over the summer and am glad that he is finally beginning to justify his fee. He is also useful from set pieces when Spurs attack and should add to his goals tally in the future
(End of season Report 01/02)  I was not happy when we signed Richards and his overall level of form has falled well short of what we expected from our £8m soon to be England defender. In saying that, despite have the odd bad mistake in a match, Richards was not that bad and we have to hope that with a pre-season behind him and a year to settle in , Richards can mature into a decent Premiership defender and think it is vitally important that the fans support him next season to ensure that he does not fail as a result of shattered confidence.
(Jan 02) Has been howler free for a while and has done him job quietly and generally effectively over the last few matches and hopefully is settling in for a good run of form for Spurs
(Dec 01) Another Richards error against Ispwich and another defeat. I have seen nothing to suggest that he is remotely good enough to play for Tottenham. A massive improvement is required, and I have great doubts whether he is able to make the jump. He is Hoddle's only error in his first few months as manager, and I hope his price tag does not keep him in the team when his form/ability mean there are better alternatives.
(Dec 01) I've never rated Richards and am yet to be convinced he is good enough to play for Spurs (irrespective of his transfer fee). It is too early to form a solid opinion, but he makes too many mistakes for my liking and I can only hope and pray that he develops into the player Hoddle wants.
(Oct 01) After the fireworks of his transfer and the Man U match where he scored and we lost 5-3, has settled in quietly and effectively at the back and has looked reliable defensively and uses the ball well when in possession.
(Sep 01) Made a dramatic start to his Spurs career scoring a goal after 15 minutes, but then being part of the defence that let in 5 goals against Champions Manchester United.
(21 Sep 01) After protracted negotiations, Hoddle has finally landed his man for a figure much less than the £10m demanded by Wupert and above the £6m figure paid for Sir Les to make him our second most expensive signing at £8.1m. While Richards was at the heart of a Hoddle defence that went seven matches without conceding a goal last season, I have never rated Richards as anything other than a decent centre back, no more no less. Much in the same way I rated Perry at Wimbledon before he joined us, but his addition to the squad should give us plenty of cover in the centre back department and help to provide a solid base on which the great man will build Hoddle's Tottenham. I would like to wish Dean all the best in his Spurs career, and hope he develops into a fine centre back during his time at the Lane.
(Sep 01) A former England U-21 international, Richards is a powerful and pacy centre-half, who was tipped for full England honours when he burst onto the scene with home-town club Bradford City in the early 90's. He then made a £1.85m move to Molineux but injuries plighted his progress at the club. Nonetheless, the player remained a Wolves regular and crowd favourite where he spent 4 seasons before moving to the Premiership for the first time at the start of the 1999/2000 season on a Bosman. He has become a firm favourite with the supporters at all of his clubs.
