| Pleat had played for numerous clubs including Luton, Shrewsbury, Exeter and Peterborough and had cut his teeth in management in the Southern League with Nuneaton Borough before returning to Kenilworth Road as coach. Pleat was soon upgraded to first team m | |||||||||||||||
| Pleat was appointed the manager of Spurs in May 1986, after the resignation of Peter Shreeve. He inherted a squad of players that included the likes of Glenn Hoddle, Ossie Ardiles and Clive Allen. | |||||||||||||||
| He got them playing a system in which Allen was the sole striker, supported by five midfielders. He adopted this system from the Belgian World Cup side of 1986. It worked to devastating effect as Clive bagged 49 goals that season, helping the club to the | |||||||||||||||
